Mount Sinai pharmacy techs vote unanimously to join OPSEU

Seeking job security and a real voice in the workplace, all the pharmacy technicians at the Mount Sinai Hospital have voted unanimously to join the hundreds of other Sinai Health System workers who belong to OPSEU.

“Congratulations and welcome – you couldn’t have picked a better time to join our family,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas to the new members. “Doug Ford and his clapping seals have torn our social services to shreds, and we know that health care is next.

“There’s no better way to protect yourselves and the high-quality services you provide than by joining a strong union like OPSEU.”

With no consultation or transparency, the Ford government is in the process of radically changing the way health care is delivered in Ontario.

A new health care “super agency” has been created, and a wave of cuts and hospital amalgamations is expected soon.

“When Mike Harris had his hands on our health care system, he spent billions of dollars on needless amalgamations that caused chaos and ended up costing much more than it saved,” said Sara Labelle, Chair of OPSEU’s Hospital Professionals Division.

“The best way for hospital professionals to defend ourselves and the life-saving services we provide is by standing together with our co-workers. Working together, we protect ourselves, our families, and our communities. Together to win.”
