Toronto– As Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto (NEW) holds its annual general meeting on Tuesday afternoon, the members of OPSEU Local 518 working at NEW will hold an information picket about their employer’s refusal to end more than a decade of stagnant wages. They’ll be joined by OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.

  • What: OPSEU Local 518 information picket at Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto (NEW)
  • When: Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 3:45 to 4:45 pm.
  • Where: 745 Danforth Ave. (Pape & Danforth)

“Stagnant wages are a wage cut,” said Thomas. “These passionate and dedicated workers provide an incredibly important service. But how are they supposed to continue this work when they can’t even afford to pay their rising bills?

“It’s time for the board of directors at NEW to tell their executive director to get back to the table with a decent and respectful wage offer.”
