“On behalf of the 47 member agencies of the Ontario AIDS
Network, please accept our thanks for the very generous support and
commitment of OPSEU’s “Live and Let LIVE Fund” to help us fight HIV and
AIDS in Ontario.
Your decision to help fight AIDS globally and locally
has made a positive difference in many lives both around the world as
well as here among your neighbors in Ontario. 100% of the funds that we
have received from OPSEU have been directed to support our Positive
Support Fund which assists people with HIV who have emergency financial
and health related needs.
In Ontario there are more than 24,000 people who have
HIV virus. Your acknowledgement of the existence and tragedy of AIDS in
the province also serves as a powerful reminder to younger Ontarians
that we have yet to defeat AIDS anywhere. There still is no cure.
The funds we have received from OPSEU have been shared
by a common agreement among our 47 membership agencies to provide
support throughout the Province in the battle against AIDS. People in
need of care and support have been able to access funds through
partnering AIDS Service agencies who have agreed to act as direct
distribution points with no overhead costs to our funds.
Last year, we were able to distribute $150,000 to help
support people who have HIV and live in poverty and were in greatest
need. Needless to say, we could not have provided this support without
the help of our brothers and sisters at OPSEU.
Thank you for recognizing that “An injury to one is an
injury to all”. Your commitment and support are truly making a
difference. We are pleased to acknowledge your generous support on our
website, within our annual report and at our AGM. If at any time I can
offer you any additional information on our work, please do not hesitate
to ask.”
