Send a letter to the editor

Letters to the editor are some of the most-read pieces in any newspaper. Letters are the voice of the community. Editors love them! Here’s how you can send one:

1. Click here to pick the newspaper(s) you want to write to. Pick the papers where you live – editors print letters that have a local flavour, and it’s pretty hard to give examples from your work in Windsor if you live in Cornwall. To select a newspaper, just click on the appropriate e-mail address. This will automatically create a new (blank) e-mail message for you.

2. Type in a subject on the subject line.

3. Write your letter. Start it with “To the editor:” so the recipient will know what it is. For the OPSEU lobby campaign, you have two choices:

  • Copy our letter-to-the-editor template and paste it into the body of your e-mail message. Then customize it to reflect your exact concerns about public services;

 OR

  • Write your own letter from scratch. Original, personal letters are best.

Be sure to include your name and phone number in the letter.

4. Click the “Send” button.

5. Read the next few editions of the newspaper. Did your letter get printed?
