Restore tax levels to rebuild our public services
For eight long years, the Harris-Eves Tories laid off public employees. They sold public assets. They privatized public services.
Most of all, they cut budgets. From 1995 to 2003, Ontario government program spending went from 15.4 per cent of the overall economy to just 11.8 per cent – a decrease of one quarter! If it could be cut, the Tories cut it.
It’s time to rebuild our public services.
To do that, we need to fix the government’s biggest problem. It’s not a spending problem. It’s a revenue problem. This year, past Tory tax cuts are taking $13.3 billion out of government coffers – more than it costs to run every hospital in Ontario!
