Greetings for a restful holiday and prosperous New Year
December 13, 2010
For many of us 2010 was a difficult year with considerable
economic difficulties and uncertainties. There were also big steps taken to
counter many of these challenges through local and provincial union
efforts. As always these actions must continue!
As 2010 draws to an end many of us will enjoy taking time to
celebrate the holiday season. This time of year is important for many
people as they mark their special traditions, cultures or religions.
The passing of the longest night and shortest day signaled
the beginning of a new year for life, especially in northern regions, and
for many that was a huge reason to celebrate! Ancient people celebrated the
lengthening days that promised the forthcoming melting of ice and snow,
arrival of spring and another cycle of renewal and growth.
I invite all OPSEU members – all 120,000 plus of us – to
make an extra special effort to enjoy themselves this festive season. They
should do so with friends from the workplace and neighbourhood. OPSEU
members represent important parts of community life and our work improves
the quality of life for all.
With this community profile many of us have family,
relatives and personal friends that are a high priority at this time of
year. In the weeks ahead and throughout 2011, be there for the special
people in your lives. Enjoy the sense of community, friendship and love
that sets the tone for this time of year.
Enjoy the days ahead through parties, dinners and family
get-togethers. For that matter, take a few hours of peace and calm for
yourself. You deserve it!
Share the best of who you are to those you love. Travel
safely. Drive carefully.
Above all, take this time to refresh yourself and those
around you in preparation for the challenges ahead in 2011.
Happy Holidays,
