New OPSEU video mobilizes for Ontario Elections
September 7, 2011 On October 6th Ontario voters
will go to the polls to elect a provincial government. OPSEU’s 135,000
members can have a positive impact in the kind of government – and
employer – we elect. We want to see a caring government, one that puts
quality public services, good jobs and an end to corporate tax cuts at
the top of the political agenda. We want quality accessible health care,
we want our roads, food and drinking water to be safe. Our most
vulnerable citizens must be able to live with dignity and in good
health. Our children must be provided an education that prepares them
for the future. On October 6th, please be sure to vote. I believe we can
elect politicians who will help us build the kind of Ontario we will be
proud to live and work in. Thank you.
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU President
August 31, 2011 OPSEU’s Executive Board has endorsed a provincial
strategy for increasing the number of progressive MPPs at Queen’s Park.
The Central Political Action Committee (comprised of Board members Jen
Giroux, Pete Wright and Gord Longhi) brought forward recommendations for
key ridings where OPSEU’s support could positively affect the outcome of
the election. Most efforts for this election focus on ridings where the
NDP already holds the seat or came close in the last provincial
election.
It is now more important than ever that OPSEU members elect
progressive representatives to Queen’s Park. Building a strong social
democratic caucus can only help working people and OPSEU members. We are
hopeful and optimistic that more NDP representatives will go a long way
to making Ontario a more generous place to live and work.
