Whereas
the Government of Ontario is actively pursuing private sector
operators to run Ontario's correctional services, including the new
1,200-bed superjails, strict discipline "boot camps," young
offender facilities, and prisoner escorts in our communities;
And whereas privatization will put public safety at risk;
And whereas privatization will make correctional services less
accountable to the citizens of Ontario;
And whereas privatization will not save money for the taxpayers of
Ontario;
WE the undersigned petition the Parliament of Ontario as follows:
We call upon the Government of Ontario to abandon all plans to
privatize any aspects of the province’s correctional system.
