Lock Talk: A Publication of the OPSEU Corrections Campaign

Agreements reached for Probation & Parole
Access given to lateral transfers and job trades

In accordance with the Youth Justice Services Agreements dated Mar. 22, 2004 pertaining to lateral transfers and job trades, further agreements were reached on June 22 to access the lateral transfer and job trading lists as of July 6, 2004. These agreements can be viewed at http://www.opseu.org/ops/ministry/locktalk/youth
justice_june2004.pdf

These agreements resolve to commence filling the identified vacancies and activating matches within the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) by accessing the lateral transfer list and the job trade list. That process will begin on July 7, 2004, and will utilize the current lists that will include applications received by 5:00 p.m. on July 6, 2004.

Additional job trade and lateral transfer opportunities will continue to exist following this first initiative within and between MCSCS and MCYS until Dec. 31, 2007.

"We knew going into this process that some individuals would be unfavourably affected and others would not get the outcome they desired," said Gord Longhi, Corrections MERC Probation and Parole representative. "The next part of the process is now unfolding and the agreements on lateral transfers and job trades ensure that every attempt will be made to ensure staff get what they want."

Requests lateral transfers and job trades must be received by the Workforce Adjustment Unit, London Office by no later than 5 p.m. on July 6, 2004. Their fax number is (519) 675-7770. It is recommended that you obtain a facsimile transmission report to verify that your documents were received. To improve your opportunities, it is suggested that you submit both a lateral transfer and a job trade request. Please prioritize your requests.

A copy may also be forwarded to Sandra Harper, Job Security Unit OPSEU, fax (416) 448-7462.

Any questions about these agreements can be e-mailed to Gord Longhi at gord.longhi@rogers.com
