Agreement for Mimico laterals reached
With the decision already made to stop the decommissioning
process at Mimico C.C., an agreement has been reached dealing with lateral
transfers at the facility.
The agreement, dated June 29, 2007, outlines the following:
Members who accepted a lateral transfer from Mimico, but who are
still at Mimico, will have the choice to either remain at Mimico or go to the
facility they were approved to go to.
Members who accepted a lateral transfer from Mimico, and who
have already reported to their new work location, will have the choice to either
remain where they are or can request to be placed on a priority lateral transfer
list back to Mimico. Members who choose to lateral back to Mimico will have to
notify the employer no later than 5 p.m. on July 20, 2007.
Lateral requests must be sent by fax to both Sandra Harper at
(416) 448-7462 (OPSEU) and Jasmine Surty at (416) 327-0863 (Ministry).

Rally moves to Hamilton
July 6, 2007 is the date for the next big corrections rally,
this time set at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre. Officers there are
facing the same situation as the brothers and sisters in North Bay, being
threatened with discipline for performing a valid health and safety refusal.
Since it has become apparent that our minister can’t focus on
anything other than traffic enforcement these days, we ask that as many members
as possible come to this rally and remind Monte Kwinter that the words
“Correctional Services” are in his ministry’s name.
The rally begins at 11:30 a.m. at 165 Barton St. East, with a
barbecue lunch to follow. OPSEU president Smokey Thomas, Corrections MERC Chair
Dan Sidsworth and members of the Corrections MERC and Health and Safety Teams
will also be there to show their support.
Make plans to be there. Discipline for health and safety
refusals must stop now.
