President Thomas meets with the Attorney General to talk about court reporters

April 1, 2010

President Thomas, Julie Weber, Ministry of the Attorney General MERC Chair and OPSEU Staff met with the Attorney General, Chris Bentley on Wednesday, March 31st. The Union requested this meeting in order to discuss concerns regarding the implementation of the court reporters Hunt et al decision.  Even though Grievance Settlement Board Vice-Chair Abramsky determined in this decision that transcript production is the bargaining unit work of the court reporters, that work continues to be done outside of the collective agreement. This failure to implement the decision denies OPSEU members their rights and entitlements.  President Thomas reminded the Attorney General that although Abramsky issued her decision in July 2006, it is now four years later and nothing has changed. The Minister promised to look into it and get back to us.
