The integrity of the record is at risk.

The Ministry of the Attorney General wants to make big changes to how court transcripts are produced. It disclosed a new model for court reporting to the union on Oct. 17, 2008. The model includes the following changes:

  • Transcript production will no longer be the work of court reporters and will not be done in local courthouses.

  • Typing pools will be located in eight communities across the province.

Court reporters believe these changes do not serve the administration of justice in Ontario. They believe the accuracy, quality and integrity of the record will be seriously compromised.
