A portion of Bill 55, the budget legislation, poses serious danger for Ontarians’ privacy and must be deleted

June 6, 2012

OPSEU president Warren (Smokey) Thomas will tell provincial budget hearings this evening that a portion of Bill 55, the budget legislation, poses serious danger for Ontarians’ privacy and must be deleted. Joined by prominent lawyer Paul Cavalluzzo, he will say the Ontario government must not be allowed to sell ServiceOntario to a U.S. corporation or a subsidiary. Personal information could be disclosed to U.S. national security authorities – in secret and without notice.
