600 OPSEU members get involved in campaign to protect jobs
We couldn’t do it without you.
Close to 600 OPSEU members in the Ontario Public Service (OPS)
participated in the union’s lunchtime workshops in 21 locations on fighting back
against the employer’s attempt to re-classify OPSEU work out of the bargaining
unit.
At these workshops, the union asked OPS members to monitor job
postings and identify for the union those that appeared to be inappropriately
classified outside the bargaining unit. As a result, the union has reviewed
close to 200 job descriptions and filed numerous policy grievances to protect
OPSEU jobs in the OPS.
We encourage members to keep an eye on vacant positions in their
workplaces. We need to make sure that not only do postings get filled, but that
they are filled as OPSEU positions.
“Thanks to all the members who got involved in our campaign to
keep good jobs in the bargaining unit,” said Kathleen Demareski, Acting
Inclusions Officer, one of the workshop leaders.
The union will continue to challenge all positions that are
improperly classified, maintaining our bargaining unit integrity, Demareski
said.
