No agreement yet…teams challenge
employer to return to bargaining
Jan. 2
On the last day of
bargaining for 2012, the
Central/Unified team is challenging
the employer to return to table on
Jan. 2 and continue bargaining
issues for the next OPS collective
agreement.
Last week, we were
informed by the employer that if an
agreement wasn’t reached by Dec. 21,
it was their intent to begin
negotiating Essential/Emergency
Services Agreements starting Jan. 2,
2013.
That said, we
believe we can get to an agreement.
While there are still major
takeaways on the table, including
the sick leave provisions,
termination pay, surplus Factor 80
and the two-tier wage grid, there
has been enough movement that we
feel an agreement is possible.
For that to happen,
two things must also occur. One, the
employer must come back to the table
on Jan. 2 and bargain issues and,
two, the employer has to be willing
to bargain in good faith to get to
an agreement. With the Liberal
leadership convention taking place
beginning Jan. 26, this would be in
everyone’s best interest.
If the employer
fails to return to bargaining on
Jan. 2, your team will then make
decisions on how we proceed from
that point forward.
