February, 2002: Article 9
Other issues of note:
Job posting: The employer’s plan to change job posting language is all based on – you guessed it – favouritism. The employer wants to be allowed to hire people off the street into temporary contracts and then, after 18 months, convert them instantly to classified positions without posting the position.
They also want to be able to hire people into jobs without holding competitions in cases where they have a favourite candidate who has competed for a “similar” job anywhere in the OPS, anywhere in Ontario, in the last 12 months. And for those they don’t ever want to hire? They don’t want to have to acknowledge that you’ve even applied for a posted
job. When you don’t get the job, they’ll be able to say, “Sorry, we didn’t get your application….”
Employment equity: As part of their campaign to wipe the words “employment equity” from human speech, the Tories want to eliminate our existing employment equity clauses and replace them with a narrower letter appended to the contract.
Call back: Want to work for cheap from home, over the phone, on your day off? You’ll have that option with the employer’s new call back language. A new article in the Feb. 14 offer would cut your overtime when the boss called you at home.
