Take action to support the OPS Bargaining Teams Across the province, members are taking action to support the bargaining teams win a better contract. By supporting our teams we build better bargaining leverage. Building our information networks in our locals, holding
lunch ‘n learn sessions, reading the bargaining teams bulletins, showing the OPS video, wearing buttons. Some locals are holding BBQ’s over a barrel! All action helps makes a difference. And what you do on your own time (lunch and breaks) is your own business, not the employers.

Region 4
February 4, 2002 Region 4 Kingston Area Coordination group come together on January 28, 2002 to plan strategies and actions to support the Bargaining
teams and pull a strong strike vote. Bargaining team members Jeff Bendig, Darwin Lacelle, and Mark Kotanen reported on the updates from the Bargaining table.
OPSEU Members take the message to the mall!
January 29, 2002 On Saturday January 26, shoppers at the Windsor Mall picked up more than what they came for. OPSEU members booked a table handed out the "It's time to rebuild" leaflet to the shoppers. Area members aid they wanted to let the public know
about the work they do and the importance of Ontario public services. Evelyn Anger, L. 154 president said "We're afraid that once they public needs the services, the services might not be there."
Response from the shoppers was extremely popular. Local media covered the event for two days.
Region 6: Lunchtime rally to support the bargaining team “40 per cent reduction of our staff, but we didn’t have a 40 per cent reduction in workload!” says Local 635.
January 17, 2002 -“We’re out here to show support of our bargaining unit. We want a contract that will ensure this government is committed to public service” said Dave Fluri, from OPSEU Local 635 at the Ministry of Natural Resources. “Our local opposes this government’s “ad hoc”
approach to public services.”
Region 5: OPSEU 551 Probation and Parole say show us respect!
January 17, 2002 After a lunchtime meeting, the members of Local 551 practice picketing on their way back to the office. The members walked into their workplace wearing their picket signs with slogans: “just practicing”, “36% Me too!” and “we mean business”
Region 3: OPSEU Local 340 BBQ to Renew
January 23, 2002 Members hold a barbecue and rally at the Ministry of Finance to call on their employer to stop destroying the Ontario Public Service and start rebuilding it. “Enough is enough.’ It’s time to start rebuilding the Ontario Public Service, and the way to do that is
to support the people on the front lines. That’s what our ‘Barbecue to Renew’ was about.”
Oshawa
Oshawa shows the employer they are ready and open a new mobilizing headquarters - right across the street from the Ministry of Finance headquarters!
