Real Deal
STRIKE ISSUE

Issue #42       April 4, 2002

We’re still at the table

Talks are continuing with the employer, but due to the media blackout we are unable to go into details.

We have heard that there are rumours flying that your Central Team is spending their time at the OPSEU convention instead of at the Bargaining Centre. Nothing could be further from the truth. Your team members are at the table, meeting with the employer and remaining available in between meetings.

Thanks again for your continued support, and for keeping those lines strong!

Convention is not just OPS

Some members have been asking why the annual OPSEU convention wasn’t cancelled because of the OPS strike.

Simply put, fewer than half of all OPSEU members belong to the OPS. Members from the Broader Public Sector (BPS) and the Colleges (CAAT) are also at convention.

The OPSEU convention is an extremely important event. The delegates to the convention are the highest decision making body in our union. Budgets, constitutional amendments and policy decisions are all put forward and debated throughout the three-day meeting.

OPS delegates are in attendance, although many activists sent alternates in their place to ensure their locals were represented. Be assured, the OPS strike is receiving a lot of attention at this year’s convention. As well, delegates are using their lunch breaks to bolster OPS picket lines in the vicinity.
