Don’t enter into local protocols
Your corrections bargaining team would like to remind all locals to not enter into any local negotiations regarding essential services. This includes post coverage, draws and rotations.
Please wait for direction from the team so we can ensure that all locals are on the same page when it comes time to negotiate local agreements.

Manager roulette
When union officials at one southern Ontario correctional facility pointed out that there were more OM16s (including one actor) than their complement called for, local management responded quickly by implementing their “hide-a-manager” contingency plan.
That facility now has a full-time OM16 acting as a maintenance person while an actor backfills for him. Grievances have been submitted.
“So much for the management shortages,” commented Rick Dagenais from the Corrections Team. “How can Rob Sampson justify this?”
Send in those benefit claims
Soon, OPSEU will send out a guide outlining what benefits will be covered in the event of a strike or lockout.
Obviously, a number of benefits will NOT be covered in this situation. Members are advised to send in any outstanding benefit claims (prescriptions, dental, etc.) as soon as possible. This will avoid any disruptions of payments in the event of a dispute.
Better to be safe than sorry!
