Strike news from your Corrections Bargaining Team

March 19, 2002

“When I rise it will be with the ranks and not from the ranks.” - Eugene V. Debs, five-time candidate for U.S. president for the Socialist Party

Legal actions launched

In response to management’s illegal lockout(s) of essential and emergency workers, reprisals against our members who exercise their rights under occupational health and safety, mass suspensions of our members, intimidation against our members and other illegal management activities, we are taking action in the following areas:

Ø Filing a complaint citing violations of Ontario Labour Relations Board vice-chair Brian McLean’s orders issued on March 15, March 16 and March 17;

Ø Our lawyers are processing health and safety appeals. We will forward those complaints for expedited hearings as outlined in the OLRB decision of March 15, 2002;

Ø Essential services disputes: The employer is bogging down the system. We are making an application to the OLRB to hear and address disputes;

Ø Formal complaints are being prepared with respect to health and safety reprisals and unfair labour practices. These will be dealt with by the OLRB.

IMPORTANT! Send us the information!
