Algonquin Park Mass Picket Instructions - Sat. Apr. 27/02
1. Picket locations are scattered through the park with considerable distances in between. Cell phones do not work. Please leave voice mail messages and picket captains are instructed to check their voice mail regularly from the pay phones at the access points.
The main contact available by phone all day is Dan Slater, Local 306 who can be reached at 613-756-6620.
Jan Borowy is the assigned staff at 416-427-0083.
2. Each group of pickets must come "self-contained". Each line must be prepared for being outside at a semi-isolated area for their shift.
Each group should bring the following:
individual lunches and drinks
rain gear, umbrellas and appropriate cool-weather clothing.
Toilet paper. At a minimum there are outdoor toilets at each location or close by, although some will have indoor washrooms available.
Picketing gear such as signs, staple gun, picket sticks, markers.
Bring flags – we want to decorate the gates, access points with as much OPSEU gear as possible.
Bring cameras to record the event
noise makers (helps to keep the bears away too!)
Leaflets for the event: "Who’s looking after our living legacy?"
Picket line tone. Algonquin Park is an OPS workplace. We want to communicate our message very clearly. Tough pickets with a minimum 10 minute wait (or as directed by picket captain) will be maintained at all permit office picket locations.
Hand out the leaflet. Encourage the public to go home because the park is not staffed properly and not safe.
Managers at the picket line (unless directed otherwise by captain). Each line should request that the manager stop for the period of time. If the manager indicates that they are in the course of their duties and/or enforcing an urgent matter then should proceed. If you have concerns check
in with the MNR rep on your line.
Public throughways on Hwy 60 at East and West gates will be information pickets with handouts. We will set up signs well ahead of the Gates that tell the traffic to slow down.
Emergencies. Please get to a phone booth and call 911. Then call Jan Borowy cell 416-427-0083 and leave message.
Police matters. If there is are any issues, please contact Jan Borowy on her cell immediately at 416-427-0083.
And let’s have fun supporting our bargaining team!
