Bargaining 2008

Central East Correctional Centre members and their supporters braved the ice, wind and snow to picket a Liberal fundraiser

February 23, 2009

Local 368 members at the Central East Correctional Centre, with support from Local 377 Brookside Youth Centre members and non-Corrections members, including Local 340 from Oshawa, braved the ice, wind and snow Feb. 18 to picket a Liberal fundraiser in Lindsay. The fundraiser was for the Liberal candidate, Rick Johnson, in the Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock by-election.

Members marched from Johnson's campaign office to the restaurant where the fundraiser was being held.

As well as having a strong and visible presence outside the fundraiser, a number of OPSEU members went inside to lobby Liberal MPPs, including two cabinet ministers.

The NDP candidate, Lyn Edwards, dropped by the picket to show her support.

Local 368 has been a persistent presence outside Liberal events in the by-election campaign and will continue to be until voting day March 5.
