Employer e-mail mystifies bargaining team
February 3, 2009
An e-mail from MGS Deputy Minister Ron McKerlie,
sent out to all OPS members today, has left the Corrections
Bargaining Team scratching their heads.
In his timely missive, McKerlie has decided to
inform everyone that, "Based on the results of the Correctional
Bargaining Unit vote, the Employer is prepared to engage in
essential services negotiations, as required under the Crown
Employees Collective Bargaining Act."
For the past two days, your Corrections Team has
been actively bargaining your issues with the employer,
bargaining which is allegedly overseen by McKerlie. At no point
has either side made any mention of negotiating essential
services. Sadly, it appears that Mr. McKerlie is completely out
of touch with the process he is supposed to be responsible for.
Your team asks everyone to ignore any outside
rumours or bargaining information, no matter how high up it
comes from the government bureaucrat chain. We will keep you
posted on the REAL developments as they unfold.
