OPS presidents unanimously support bargaining teams
Local OPS presidents from across Ontario gathered at the Crowne Plaza – Don Valley in Toronto on Sat., May 14 to discuss the employer’s “final” offer with the bargaining teams.
The employer’s final offers to both the Central/Unified Bargaining Team and the Corrections Bargaining Team were evaluated and reviewed by all in attendance.
OPSEU President Leah Casselman said, “This is not a contract offer, it is an insult. There is no respect in this offer. It is nothing more than a re-hash of Tory bargaining concessions of the past ten years.”
The local presidents put forward a motion to also recommend that the offer be rejected. That motion was passed unanimously amidst much chanting and fanfare.
Bargaining team members, mobilizers and OPSEU staff will be touring the province informing the members of the employer’s “final” offer right up until the voting days of May 25, 26 and 27. The votes will be counted on May 28 and the results released that day.
A strong “NO” vote allows the bargaining teams to go back to the table with the support of the members they represent.
A strong “NO” vote tells the employer that the members want their demands taken seriously.
A strong “NO” vote sends the bargaining teams back to the table to negotiate a fair contract that treats Ontario public servants with dignity and respect.
