On March 26, 2009, the Harper
government introduced legislation to implement the
Canada Colombia Free Trade Deal despite widespread
opposition from union and non-governmental
organizations in Canada as well as social movements
in Colombia itself. OPSEU and NUPGE have condemned

Canada Should Not Proceed with Colombia Trade Deal
Letter from OPSEU President Smokey Thomas to
Michael Ignatieff, M.P. calling on the Liberal party
to join with the NDP and the Bloc to halt the
ratification of the Canada-Colombia Free Trade
Agreement.
OPSEU’s Campaign. Members of
the Provincial Youth Committee and the Equity
Committee have already agreed to a letter writing
and phoning campaign to stop the deal. If you
and/or your local would like to participate, please
call Brenda Wall or Archana Mathew at

calling key Liberal MPs to send a message to join
with the NDP and the Bloc to stop this deal.
