Region 4 Executive Board Member Chris
Cormier, Part of the National Union of Public and
General Employees’ Writers 4 Change, had the following
letter printed in the January 13 edition of the Toronto
Sun:
Corporate tax cuts
There appears to be little chance
the McGuinty government won’t make deep cuts in the
next budget. It would also be very surprising if the
Drummond commission doesn’t make similar
recommendations. And of course a Tory MPP is already
saying the government needs to cut deeper and
faster. The problem is nobody knows what those cuts
will be and how badly they’ll affect ordinary
families. But if Drummond and the Liberals and
Tories are going to cause all of us so much pain in
the name of deficit reduction, then how can they
leave the $3 billion in corporate tax cuts on the
table? If they’re serious about deficit reduction
they should stop the corporate gravy train and put
the money towards our deficit and better services.
