Grand opening at OPSEU’s new Peterborough Regional Office

February 2, 2012

OPSEU’s new Peterborough Regional Office officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We look forward to welcoming our members and allies to our new Peterborough offices and membership centre,” said Warren (Smokey) Thomas.

The opening ceremony was attended by 1st Vice-President/Treasurer, Eduardo Almeida; Region 3 Vice-President, Pete Wright; Region 3 Board Member, Sara Labelle, as well as OPSEU’s Peterborough Area Council, Local Presidents, staff and members.

Almeida cut the ribbon officially opening the facility. “Our members and staff deserve a workplace that they can be proud of,” said Almeida. “I am particularly proud of the accessibility issues that this new facility addresses.”

“This space meets the needs of our growing membership,” said Wright. “After 20 years at the previous offices, it was time to move into a larger, more accommodating location.”

Three commercial units were combined and renovated to create a modern, accessible, spacious facility. In addition to offices, a kitchenette and boardroom, the new location includes a large Membership Centre with the capacity to hold meetings for up to 50. The parking spaces can accommodate twice that number.

The new Peterborough Regional Office is located at 1840 Lansdowne Street in the Mapleridge Plaza.
