The first annual Larry Cripps Scholarship has been awarded to Georgetown resident Scott Logan.  The Humber College student is the son of Lesley Logan, Local 234.

The $2,000 scholarship is awarded every year to students of law enforcement or corrections, in memory of Larry Cripps, a provincial correctional officer who died in 2004. Applicants must be dependents of OPSEU members.

Scott Logan submitted the winning essay that outlined his dedication to the law enforcement field and commitment to publicly-run correctional facilities.

“Scott is a positive role model and will have a huge impact on the community once he completes his education,” says Leah Casselman, president of OPSEU. “We thank all the applicants for their outstanding essay submissions. We look forward to welcoming them all soon as OPSEU members.”

The Larry Cripps scholarship will be awarded again in the fall 2006.
