Hundreds attend Oshawa Rally

May 12, 2009

Hundreds of citizens and union members braved the rain on Sat., May 9 to attend the CLC Jobs First Rally in Oshawa's Memorial Park. The rally was organized by the Canadian Labour Congress and the Durham Region Labour Council.  Guest speakers included Smokey Thomas, Ken Lewenza (CAW), Ken Georgetti (CLC), John Gray (Mayor of Oshawa), Sid Ryan (CUPE) and Jack Layton (NDP).

The message was clear. Its time to protect pensions, it's time to fix employment insurance, its time to protect people instead of profits for the banks. At the end of the rally participants marched to Colin Carrie's constituents' office to deliver that message.

The next Jobs First Rally will be held in downtown Toronto at Metro Hall on Sat., June 13 at 1 p.m. (download flyer at right)
