July 2, 2001 Brothers and Sisters: The OPSEU Local 361 represents some 143 workers employed at Kennedy Youth Services (Uxbridge), formerly St. John's School. This facility is the largest phase 1 maximum security institution in the province - housing 80 residents. The employees are correctional workers, groundskeepers, social workers, clerical staff, cleaners, cooks, nurses, and a maintenance department. We were locked out on Sunday, June 23, 2001 after our employer broke off negotiations. This letter is a request for support in setting up a hardship fund to assist members who may experience this over the course of the lock-out. We would appreciate any financial assistance from your Local at this time. If you would like to send a donation, please make cheques payable c/o Andy Harris (Hardship Committee) and mail to:
Please contact us with any questions or for further information.
