Developmental Services workers from OPSEU Local 573 at Muki
Baum Association for the Rehabilitation of the Multi-handicapped have
reached a tentative agreement with their employer.
Members gave strong support to their bargaining team with a
98.5 percent strike vote.
“The respect and good will shown by this employer during
negotiations have set an example for the Developmental Services sector
across the province,” said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. “When it
goes well at the table it’s good for everyone: the workers, the people they
support, the community they serve and the employer.”
“The employer and the local bargaining team maintained
positive and open communications throughout the negotiation process,” said
OPSEU Local 573 bargaining team member, Amelia Murphy-Beaudoin. ”We were
able to reach this tentative agreement in large part due to the employer’s
respect for the members and the work we do.”
Key issues included wages as well as improvements for
part-time and relief workers.
OPSEU’s bargaining team unanimously recommends that the
members of Local 573 vote in favour of the new tentative agreement.
A ratification vote will be held on Tuesday December 20th,
2011 from 10am to 6pm at the
Wilson Membership Centre.
