Public sector workers protest McGuinty government’s priorities at Liberal fundraiser

May 28, 2010

Public sector workers will take their message of ‘working people are not the problem’ straight to Ontario Liberal party members and supporters at a fundraiser on Monday for Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Leona Dombrowsky.

Date: Monday, May 31, 2010
Time: 4:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Place: Belleville Ramada Inn Park Room, 11 Baybridge Road, Belleville

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan is a featured speaker at the fundraiser.

OPSEU members are protesting the recent Ontario budget which contained serious attacks on the public sector.

“We want Leona Dombrowsky and Dwight Duncan to explain why their government is giving away billion of dollars in tax breaks to corporations at a time when public services are in rough shape,” says OPSEU Regional Vice-president, David Lundy. “And where is the fairness in public sector managers raking in fat ‘pay-for-performance’ bonuses when part-time workers who are earning barely $20,000 to $30,000 a year will be taking a pay cut?”

Premier McGuinty’s corporate tax cuts will cost Ontario $2.4 billlion each year.

OPSEU activists have been protesting at Ontario Liberal Party fundraising events since April 19, demanding the government invest in public services and stop the corporate tax cuts.
