NORTH BAY – With North Bay's new hospital moving closer to
completion, the union representing many area health care workers is extending
its appreciation to dozens of its members.
About 250 employees, including support and clerical, nursing,
maintenance, community workers and housekeeping staff, were transferred from the
Northeast Mental Health Centre (NEMHC) to the North Bay General Hospital June
30.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union is hosting a barbeque
in appreciation of these workers, who will leave Local 636 at NEMHC.
Ontario Public Service Employees Union President Warren (Smokey)
Thomas will be in North Bay to express appreciation to the members and to tour
local facilities.
Media are invited to attend the barbeque:
Where: Entrance to NEMHC, North Bay Campus, Highway 11 North of
North Bay
When: August 5, 2008 – 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“These are people who made a tremendous contribution to our
local, and we want to say thanks and wish them well" said Jackie Smythe,
President of Local 636 at NEMHC.
"We welcome these OPSEU members to North Bay General, and we
know they'll become a valuable part of our health care team," said Peggy Burke,
President of Local 662 at the hospital.
OPSEU represents about 130,000 public employees working in
communities across Ontario. These include about 2,500 in the North Bay area.
