Association of Allied Health Professionals joins OPSEU

The 2,100 members of the Association of Allied Health Professionals: Ontario have joined the Ontario Public Service Employees Union to form the leading health care union in Ontario. This took effect Nov. 1.

OPSEU and Allied Health represent a long list of licensed health care practitioners such as: laboratory technologists, respiratory technologists, X-ray, electronic and other paramedical technicians, occupational therapists, social workers, speech pathologists and other health professionals.

OPSEU President Leah Casselman said, "I welcome Allied members to OPSEU. OPSEU and Allied Health will work together to protect and defend dedicated health care professionals who are threatened by the Ontario government's plan to privatize the health care system and close hospitals."

AAHP represents members in the hospital sector, Community Care Access Centres (CCAC), public health bargaining units and community agencies. These members are located in Ottawa, Kingston, London, Owen Sound, Peterborough, Toronto and Sudbury.

The merger was ratified by AAHP: O members in September and approved by the OPSEU Executive Board in October.
