MTHA Officers vote today on tentative agreement

TORONTO – Striking Housing Officers at the Metro Toronto Housing Authority will vote today on a tentative agreement reached in contract talks late last night.

"It’s a deal that moves our members ahead and significantly improves the working conditions and quality of life of our contract staff," said Tim Zavitz, chair of the bargaining team for the unit of Local 592 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. "Our team has no reservations about recommending this to our members."

The 190 officers went on strike Nov. 16.

Results of the ratification vote, being held at OPSEU Head Office at 100 Lesmill Road, will be available shortly after 6:00 p.m. tonight. Details of the settlement will be released at that time if it is ratified.

The new contract runs from July 1, 1998 to December 31, 2000.
