OPSEU denounces spending cuts and privatization plans

Toronto: - OPSEU president Leah Casselman says the provincial government has lied to the people of Ontario about its plans to privatize the new super jails. " This government assured the town of Penetanguishene and its residents that the new super jail being built there would be publicly operated, now the Minister of Corrections announces it will be run by a private sector-security firm," said Casselman.

Leah Casselman will hold a news conference at Queens Park this afternoon to respond to these privatization plans and the proposed closures of ten provincial jails including Oakridge, Ontario’s only maximum-security prison for inmates that have serious psychiatric problems.
