Illegal strike a "mere allegation," Labour Board decides

TORONTO – The Ontario government’s accusation that workers at some Ontario correctional facilities took part in an illegal strike Monday and Tuesday is a "mere allegation," the Ontario Labour Relations Board has ruled.

In Toronto today, OLRB Chair R. O. MacDowell made the decision after government lawyers claimed that workers had collectively called in sick and that the Ontario Public Service Employees Union had encouraged unlawful strike action.

MacDowell adjourned the matter sine die. No hearings are scheduled.
