Sept. 12, 2007 Blank Spacer

(York Region) – The seventeen day strike at York CAS, which began Aug. 27, 2007, has ended. On Sept. 12, 2007, the 180 striking members voted to accept management’s latest offer. All bargaining unit members will return to work on Sept. 13, 2007.

OPSEU Local 304 President Lisa Maynard and Executive Director Patrick Lake said, “We are gratified that we were able to come together to resolve the three areas of concern: workload, wages and mileage. We look forward to a new era of working together in our shared goal of creating a positive work environment for staff and providing the highest quality care to the children and families of York Region.”

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas commented, “We look forward to an improved working relationship with the employer so that together, the children and families of the region will receive the best possible service. We are optimistic that with this new collective agreement, we will be able to achieve just that.”

Today’s vote has ended the first strike in the Society’s history.
