(York Region) – The
seventeen day strike at York CAS, which
began Aug. 27, 2007, has ended. On Sept.
12, 2007, the 180 striking members voted
to accept management’s latest offer. All
bargaining unit members will return to
work on Sept. 13, 2007.

President Lisa Maynard and Executive
Director Patrick Lake said, “We are
gratified that we were able to come
together to resolve the three areas of
concern: workload, wages and mileage. We
look forward to a new era of working
together in our shared goal of creating
a positive work environment for staff
and providing the highest quality care
to the children and families of York
Region.”
OPSEU President Warren
(Smokey) Thomas commented, “We look
forward to an improved working
relationship with the employer so that
together, the children and families of
the region will receive the best
possible service. We are optimistic that
with this new collective agreement, we
will be able to achieve just that.”
Today’s vote has ended
the first strike in the Society’s
history.
