College talks restart Monday

TORONTO – Negotiations will resume Monday at 9:30 a.m. in an effort to end the strike in Ontario’s 24 colleges.

“We hope management got a clear message from the rallies yesterday,” said Ted Montgomery, chair of the negotiating team for OPSEU members on college faculty. “We hope to see a serious and reasonable offer from them as talks resume on Monday.”

“Quality education remains a key issue and they have to address that. We say there is a semester completion strategy: settle,” he said. “And that’s done by dealing with the quality issue.”

In separate meetings today, both union and management negotiators met with colleges minister Chris Bentley. Montgomery said he had a “frank discussion” with the minister.

The faculty have been without a contract since Aug. 31, 2005, and have been on strike since March 7.
