OPSEU reaches
tentative agreement for staff at the Art Gallery of Ontario
TORONTO – The union
representing 260 full- and part-time employees at the Art
Gallery of Ontario has reached a tentative agreement with AGO
management. The deal was finalized at 9 p.m. tonight, averting
a possible strike that was set to start at 12:01 a.m.
Thursday, June 29.
“We are pleased to announce
that we have reached an agreement that addresses our members’
key concerns regarding job security during construction at the
AGO,” said Marcie Lawrence, chair of the bargaining team for
OPSEU Local 535.
The tentative agreement was
reached after 36 hours of mediation. On May 11, OPSEU members
voted 96 per cent to authorize their bargaining team to call a
strike, if necessary.
The tentative agreement will be
presented to OPSEU members at the AGO and put to a
ratification vote next week. The union will release highlights
of the deal following the vote.
