Employees at Canadian
Blood Services National Contact Centre join OPSEU
SUDBURY – Employees of Canadian
Blood Services National Contact Centre celebrated yesterday
when they voted in favour of joining the Ontario Public
Service Employees Union.
Over 88 per cent of the
employees participated in the day-long vote held July 11,
2006.
“This is a great day for these
employees,” said Mirla Alvarado Fenn, representative for the
committee organizing the workers. “We now hope to finally get
a lot of long-standing issues addressed at the Centre.”
Richard Larcher, OPSEU Region 6
Executive Board Member in Sudbury, said he is proud of those
who worked so hard on this drive.
“We thank our members and staff
who worked on this campaign,” Larcher said. “It was their
tireless efforts and dedication that made this such a
success.”
The union expects to move
quickly to begin negotiations on the first collective
agreement for the members. The Canadian Blood Services
National Contact Centre employs approximately 240 workers who
receive calls from blood donors across Canada.
