Increasing private
health care and diminished patient care real story behind
Liberal LHINs scheme, say Hamilton health care workers
HAMILTON - The McGuinty
Liberals propose massive changes to health service delivery
that will open the door to more private health care, while
compromising local access to services and diminishing patient
care, say Hamilton are health care workers.
The Ontario Nurses' Association
(ONA), the Service Employees International Union Local 1.on (SEIU
Local 1.on), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and
the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) are holding
a media conference to alert the Hamilton area community to how
the proposed Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs)
legislation will impact access to health care locally.
The four health care unions,
which collectively represent 200,000 health service workers,
have launched a joint province-wide campaign to stop the most
destructive elements of the McGuinty Liberals’ LHINs scheme. A
landmark meeting of ONA, OPSEU, CUPE and SEIU health care
members is also scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on January 16 at the
Sheraton Hotel, 116 King Street West.
