scholarship
TORONTO: The Ontario Public
Service Employees Union’s 13,000 member Hospital Professionals
Division will announce two major community initiatives at its
demand-setting meeting today.
Patty Rout, chair of the
division representing MRI technologists, physiotherapists,
laboratory technologists and other professionals, will present
a $2,000 donation to Colin Jenkins of the Ontario Heart and
Stroke Foundation.
Date: February 16,
2006
Time: 11:30 am
Location: Mountbatten Room, Delta Chelsea Hotel
(Corner Gerrard and Yonge Sts.)
As well, the division will
announce a major scholarship. The Hospital Professionals
Division Scholarship Program will award each year, in each of
OPSEU’s seven Ontario regions, a $750 scholarship to an OPSEU
member or dependent enrolled in a post secondary program to
enter one of the allied hospital professions.
“This is an effort to promote
our professions and attract new people into these careers, in
which already-severe staff shortages are growing every year,”
said Rout.
Members of the OPSEU Hospital
Professionals Division are important members of the team that
helps heart and stroke patients recover. These also include
social workers, dieticians, pharmacists and pharmacy
technicians, x-ray, and ultrasound technologists.
