Georgian College
student wins OPSEU scholarship
The annual Larry Cripps
Scholarship has been awarded to Alison Jordan of RR 3,
Chatsworth.
The $2,000 scholarship is
awarded each year by the Ontario Public Service Employees
Union to a worthy student of law enforcement or correctional
services, in memory of Larry Cripps, a provincial
correctional officer who died in 2004. Applicants must be
dependents of OPSEU members.
Alison Jordan, a student at
Georgian College in Owen Sound, submitted the winning essay
that outlined her dedication to the correctional services
field and commitment to publicly-run correctional
facilities. Her father, Steve Jordan, is a member of OPSEU
Local 250 at the Owen Sound Jail.
“Alison is a positive role
model and will have a huge impact on the community once she
completes her education,” said Leah Casselman, president of
OPSEU.
“We thank all the applicants
for their outstanding essay submissions. We look forward to
welcoming them all soon as OPSEU members.”
The Ontario Public Service
Employees Union represents 115,000 members, including
employees of provincial jails, law courts, and probation and
parole offices.
