Fire CAS managers who waste money, says OPSEU

TORONTO – The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) says Children’s Aid Society managers who waste money on expensive SUVs and trips abroad should be fired.

“Our members are required to account for every second of their day and every dollar they spend. Why doesn’t this accountability extend to management?” asked OPSEU President Leah Casselman.

“The first job of these workers is to protect vulnerable children. If they cannot do this, either because CAS agencies are underfunded, or because management is misallocating the dollars they do have, then CAS management should be fired.”

OPSEU represents more than 2,000 CAS front-line and support workers across the province including York Region, one of four CAS agencies to be the focus of a value for money audit to be released next week. OPSEU will comment in detail when the report is released next week.
