Simcoe school support workers rally at 12 area schools 

SIMCOE COUNTY – Students and parents at 12 area schools will be greeted tomorrow morning by rallying support workers seeking a fair contract from Simcoe County District School Board.

Date:   Tuesday, November 22

Time:  7: 30 a.m. – 8 a.m. at the high schools; 8 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. at the elementary schools.

Place:  12 schools and the education centre in Simcoe County. Locations attached.

“We keep the classrooms running every day, but we’re treated as second-class workers,” said Dave McCarl, president of OPSEU Local 330 and an educational assistant at Collingwood Collegiate.

Support staff at the Simcoe County District School Board have a rising workload, yet receive less wages and professional development than support workers at the Muskoka Simcoe Catholic School Board.

“We’re asking for fairness so all students in the region get the same quality education,” said McCarl.

Members of OPSEU Local 330 include educational assistants, school and education centre secretaries and clerical staff, learning and career centre staff and technicians.
