Slots of Windsor
Raceway security staff could be on strike if talks fail
WINDSOR –Security staff at the
Slots of Windsor Raceway could be walking the picket line in
December, negotiators for the Ontario Public Service Employees
Union say.
The union has asked for a
no-board report from the Ministry of Labour. If issued Monday
Nov. 14, that report would set the clock ticking towards an
earliest-possible deadline for a strike or lockout of Dec. 1,
2005. No strike date has been set, as yet.
“While we are making progress,
there are a number of outstanding issues including wages,
hours of work and seniority,” said OPSEU negotiator Jill
Morgan. “After two long days of conciliation, the team decided
this was the only way to produce movement from the employer.”
The 38 members of OPSEU Local
111, employees of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC),
have been without a contract since March 31, 2005. A mediation
date is scheduled for Nov. 23.
