OPSEU local presidents unanimously recommend rejection of McGuinty offer
TORONTO – Over 300 OPSEU local presidents who attended an information session May 14 with their bargaining teams have unanimously recommended that the final offer from the McGuinty government be rejected.
Bargaining representatives for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union have recommended that their members vote to reject the final offer tabled by the McGuinty government on May 12. The local union presidents at Saturday’s meeting have given their unanimous support for that recommendation.
“Today, our bargaining teams and local leaders are standing as one and telling Dalton McGuinty this offer doesn’t even come close,” said OPSEU President Leah Casselman. “Starting tomorrow, our members will receive information on the offer and prepare themselves for the upcoming vote.”
OPSEU members will vote on the employer offer on May 25, 26, and 27. A rejection will give the union a strike mandate. The previous contract expired Dec. 31, 2004. No strike deadline has yet been set.
