Tentative agreement reached in College support bargaining

TORONTO--The union representing Ontario College support workers has reached a tentative agreement with the employer.

“Our bargaining team is pleased to have a deal we can recommend to our members,” said Rod Bemister, chair of bargaining for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union’s 6,500 college support workers.

“This deal includes the five key outstanding items our members told us they needed,” Bemister said. It includes:

  • A three-year agreement expiring Aug. 31, 2008.
  • A three per cent staged wage increase in each of the three years of the agreement.
  • A recognition allowance of $400 for those who have completed 10 years of service.
  • Withdrawal of the wages and benefits comparison letter.
  • Improved time off for union business.

The agreement also includes a drug benefits card.

The full text of the tentative agreement will be available at www.opseu.org tomorrow. A ratification vote will be held as soon as it can be arranged with the College Relations Commission.
