OPSEU condemns closing
of detox centre: Rally tomorrow!
TORONTO – Members of Ontario
Public Service Employees Union, Local 500 will join other
members of the community at a rally to condemn the closing of
the Detox Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental
Health, this Tuesday.
Almost 40 per cent of all detox
beds in Toronto will be closing. The Ontario Ministry of
Health and Long Term Care and Toronto Withdrawal Management
Services (TWMS) are closing 36 beds at two residential
withdrawal centers.
501 Queen St. West will be
closing its doors on August 31, 2005 and 16 Ossington is
scheduled to close October 31, 2005. No meaningful stakeholder
consultation has taken place on these closures.
In response to these planned
closures, over 100 people, met July 21 2005 to express
opposition to the “restructuring plan” and detox closures. A
community rally will be held at:
